Avoid Okachi. review of the so called Okachi energy saver compact fluorescent bulbs or lamps CFL's.

I bought 44 of these 9W OKACHI compact fluorescent lamps or bulbs or CFL's for a garden wall.

The packet stated a life of 9000 hours which seemed very good since a normal bulb is 1000 hours or so.

I bought them in Margarita Island, Venezuela in a big shop called Rattan in Rattan Plaza, Porlamar, Margarita. Several failed immediately and after less than three months use of about 10 hours daily about 16 of the bulbs had failed. Most had large black deposits inside the white tube near the bases indicating rapid deterioration.

DO NOT BUY OKACHI COMPACT FLUORESCENT BULBS!! AVOID OKACHI.

So that it less than 10 x 90 = 900 hours of life when the box said 9000 hours.

Rattan at first replaced about 8 bulbs but refused to replace any more when I returned with more failures despite it being less than 3 months of use and Rattan normally give 3 months guarantee. So I am not happy with that shop since they are selling products with false advertising and then refusing to replace defective lamps.

Rattan Depot in Margarita is a well known shop for building equipment and hardware, tools, lighting equipment and the like. It is one of the main buildings in the Rattan Plaza centro commercial in Av. Aldonza Manrique, Playa El Angel, Porlamar, Margarita Island. It has a website www.rattanMargarita.com Tel +58 (0) 295 2627011. Fax 2626133. Please fax them and complain if you agree with me.

Okachi is a Japanese company which I couldn't find much about. The box states the power of the bulb/lamp is 9W = 45W for a normal bulb. It is a 110 Volt bulb at 60 Hz. Clearly stated on the side of the carton is 9000 hours of life equivalent to 10 normal bulbs. What rubbish because 16 of the bulbs didn't last 900 hours let alone 9000.

The bulbs were 5,500 bolivars per bulb which is about $2.50US.
